What to order
Why go
Seafood roughly 250 km from the ocean deserves honesty: trout comes from regional waters and is the reliable order; ocean fish and the mariscal — Chile's briny seafood stew — depend on the trucking week, hence the local phrase "when it exists". Order the simply grilled or fried trout with rice and salad and you will eat better than the price suggests.
Portions are enormous and plates run US$ 6–12 (≈ CLP 6,000–11,700), which makes El Cabo the cheapest solid protein in town outside the comedor menus near the terminal. It slots neatly into the food arithmetic in our San Pedro budget guide: eat one big cheap meal here and spend the savings on a dinner elsewhere.
