What to order
Why go
Step past the door and you hit the grill smoke first — La Cautiva runs one of the busiest parrillas in the center, with big plates of grilled beef, chorizo and chicken backed by generous rice-and-salad sides. It sits squarely on Caracoles, which means it eats the evening tour crowds; that sounds like a warning, but it keeps turnover high and the grill honest.
The play here is value: the fixed menu — soup, main, dessert — undercuts almost every other hot dinner on the street, and à-la-carte mains run US$ 12–22 (≈ CLP 12,000–21,500). For the cheapest hot meal in town, the comedor menus by the bus terminal win; for grill atmosphere, this is the room. La Estaka works the same formula a few steps away.
Good to know
Payment: cards generally accepted; carry cash for the fixed menu.
Reservations: walk-in only in practice — queues build after 21:00 when tour groups land.
Crowds: loudest 20:30–22:00; the earliest sitting is the calmest.
Portions are large — two light eaters can share one main and add a salad.
Find it at: Caracoles street, mid-block near the plaza
